View of detail of a stained glass skylight ceiling and carved oak panelling at Astor House, 2 Temple Place, Temple. Part of a frieze in carved oak relief by Thomas Nicholls can be seen, showing characters from some of William Shakespeare's novels. Some of his carved oak statues with American literary associations can also be seen. The house was built in 1895 by J. L. Pearson for the wealthy American businessman William Waldorf Astor, as his London home and office. The year 1895 appears on two of the stained glass panels. Astor House is Grade II* listed, listing number 1234514. The building today is known as the Incorporated Accounts Hall, where exhibitions of public works of art are held.
