Description
A view of the music room of Chesterfield House, a grand mansion that stood just off Curzon Street, Mayfair. The walls and ceiling are lavishly decorated with floral, classical and other elements. There is a heavy marble fireplace. The London townhouse was built between 1747 and 1752 by Philip Stanhope, 4th Earl of Chesterfield (1694-1773), statesman and man of letters. It no longer exists, having been demolished in 1937; an apartment block of the same name occupies the site.
