Description
View of the prison vaults beneath the White Tower at the Tower of London, Tower Hill. The picture features a brick groin vaulted roof and semi-circular stone-arched recesses. The vaults were in use until the eighteenth century, thereafter the Queens House was used to house prisoners including spies captured during World War II, Rudolf Hess after his escape from Nazi Germany, and East-End gangsters, the Kray twins. The White Tower is Grade I listed, listing number 1260258.
