View of Bear Gardens, Bankside, looking north towards the river. On the left at number 12, with a boy standing in the doorway, is the White Bear public house. On the right, with a man smoking in the doorway, are three residential buildings with all the windows open, and further down on the right is an iron foundry. Two horse-drawn carts are passing further down the alley. The cobbles on the street and several of the buildings still exist. Under the street and the buildings are the remains of an Elizabethan and Jacobean bear baiting arena, listed as a Scheduled Monument in 2016, listing number 1433280.
