St George's Circus, Elephant and Castle, Southwark. View of the west side of the circus showing the exterior of the Royal Eye Hospital which had moved to the site in 1892. The building has posters requesting support for rebuilding the hospital on a new larger site to allow for the treatment of more patients. Adjacent to the hospital are four commercial buildings, at the time being the premises of the Teachers' and General Investment Company Limited and Watts and Watts, auctioneers, at 5 St George's Circus; Grey Coaches Limited, motor coach proprietors, at 4 St George's Circus; Post Office receiving house at 3 St George's Circus and W. J. Calder and Sons, accountants, and a branch of Barclays Bank at 1 and 2 St George's Circus. These buildings have since been demolished.
