Description
Chislehurst Road is in a high quality residential area developed on Richmond Hill after the arrival of the railway serving Richmond in 1856, which now lies within the St Matthias conservation area of Richmond-upon-Thames. Its buildings comprise a number of mainly semi-detached mid to late Victorian villas of similar style and grandeur, retaining much of their original appearance and all being listed as Buildings of Townscape Merit. This view shows the pair of villas at numbers 10 and 12. Since this photograph was taken, there has been some relandscaping to the front gardens. The mature wisteria covering number 12's facade has been replaced with newer climbing shrubs, and the driveway relaid with pale brick pavers, although the diamond chequered pathway has been retained. The brick pilaster has been renovated and recapped to its original form and a new gate added to match the style of its neighbouring gate. This view also shows a Mini Clubman Estate parked in number 12's driveway.
