Description
This row of cottages, known as Merton Cottages in Christchurch Road, East Sheen, date back to the eighteenth century. They are located in the Christchurch Road conservation area of Richmond-upon-Thames to the north of Richmond Park across the road from Percy Lodge, originally a hunting lodge for the Duke of Northumberland. Showing from left to right, mostly of frame with the whitewashed brickwork and transverse apex are numbers 58 and 60, which were Grade II listed in 1983, listing number 1080840. Numbers 54-56 are listed locally as a Building of Townscape Merit, numbers 50-52 were Grade II listed in 1983, listing number 1080839, and numbers 44-48 were also Grade II listed in 1983, listing number 1358082. The Plough public house, also eighteenth century and listed locally, is just out of frame to the right at number 42. Parked in the road in front of the cottages is a Renault 5, a Triumph 1300/1500, and a Peugeot 104 hatchback. A foldaway style bicycle can also be seen.
